BEGUM TV: A New Channel for Afghan Women

Launch and objective: BEGUM TV was launched at the beginning of March 2024. This TV channel, broadcast from Paris, is the fruit of the hard work of Afghan refugee women who have found a way in France to resist and support their “sisters” who remain in the country.

Educational programs: BEGUM TV offers educational programs in Dari and Pashto, covering the Afghan school curriculum from grades 6 to 12. This enables girls and women to continue learning despite the restrictions imposed by the Taliban regime, notably the ban on secondary and university education for girls.

Psychological support: in addition to education, BEGUM TV offers programs focusing on mental health and well-being. These programs aim to help Afghan women cope with the challenges and traumas they face in their daily lives through practical advises such as breathing and meditation exercises. Such a powerful message conveys the importance of media as a tool for hope and healing.

Studio in Paris: BEGUM TV’s recording studio, located north of Paris, is a place of creation and freedom where exiled Afghan journalists and presenters, such as Diba Akbari and Marina Golbahari, produce content to reach Afghan homes.
